The Stone Roses self titled debut LP was released in early May 1989 and helped define a sound, now known as the Madchester scene. The Stone roses along with other Manchester bands like the Happy Mondays redefined an era of music, influencing the public by playing giant gigs at Spike Island and The Hacienda night club, following their debut's release. The album itself was recorded throughout London, primarily in Battery Studios but also worked on singles at Konk and Rockfield studios too. The music itself, written by the band's front man and lead guitarist, Ian Brown and John Squire, is said to have formed a template for Britpop as well as inventing the madchester sound. The record has been associated with rave culture and dance music, suggested by the manner in which the rhythm section of bassist, Mani and drummer Reni played in, as well as the dispassionate tones of Ian Brown expressing arrogant sentiments such as: I wanna be adored and I am the resurrection.
